Dick Bradsell – The Passing of a Legend

written by Melina

It was with great sadness that we heard the news of the passing of cocktail legend Dick Bradsell.

It is thanks to Dick, that many of our favourite cocktails exist. Namely, the Espresso Martini, the Bramble & the Russian Spring Punch to name but just a few.

His inspirational creativity and focus on quality and service made him a pioneer in the development of Britain’s modern cocktail bar scene.  And it’s these same principles of quality, creativity and service that continue to inspire us today at Hel’s Angels when we are designing food and drink menus for our clients.

Dick will be missed intensely by the bar industry but his legacy lives on around the world in the menus of those he inspired.

Here is one of our favourites created by Dick Bradsell at Fred’s Club, Soho, London back in the 1980’s.

We’ll be raising one in your honour sir

50ml London Dry Gin

25ml Fresh lemon juice

12.5ml sugar syrup

12.5ml Crème de mûre

Shake the gin, lemon juice and sugar syrup together before straining the contents over crushed ice.  Lace crème de mûre over the top, to create the ‘bramble’ effect. Serve in a rocks glass or small old-fashioned filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a slice of lemon and fresh blackberries.
