Hel’s Angels provides Comic Relief!

written by Guest Angel

It’s that time of year when we all come together to raise money and awareness for one of the most exciting and influential charities in the country! Red Nose Day is back and Hel’s Angels has been at the logistical helm of trialling a pilot scheme to test how contactless payment technology works as a means of donation when used in a fun and innovative way.

Our Angels have been working with Comic Relief in anticipation of the charity’s biannual fundraising campaign “Red Nose Day”. We have been live in 10 major cities around the UK; accompanying life size cut outs of the nation’s beloved comedians. The ten statues included comedians and comic characters that have donated their time and talent to help Comic Relief over the years.

We at Hel’s Angels HQ got stuck into the operational side of things with gusto. We sourced the locations, provided the uniforms and also organised technical reconnaissance missions to each location pre-activity. We also ensured the smooth running of all the transportation and storage of equipment -which is where our fabulous Angels came in.

We hand picked staff from around the country who had the required skill set and experience to act as special ‘Angel Couriers’ and take on a more operations based role- something we were confident our experienced and dedicated team members could handle. The Angel couriers were tasked with the safe carriage and installation of these iconic comedy figures in prime retail locations nationwide, while our Brand Ambassadors were there to meet them and run the activity throughout the week. We selected staff with a strong background in operations, event management, and charity work in order to ensure the campaign was executed flawlessly for Comic Relief.

Our Angels on-site used their skill and experience to engage with the public in order to raise awareness of the charity’s vital work, and demonstrate how to operate the contactless payment technology. Passers by were shown how to tap their bank card on the comedian’s pocket, which then made a one off donation of £1 to the charity. They could even snap a selfie with their comedy heroes using the hashtag #RNDStatues to give the campaign an even stronger online presence.

As an official partner of Red Nose Day, Barclays kindly provided the donation payment technology via contactless or the Barclay’s Pingit app, where you were also able to add on an extra 25% Gift Aid donation.

The money raised from the campaign will be spent on funding projects for vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives all over the UK and Africa. In 2013 Red Nose Day raised an astonishing £100,331,808 and we at Hel’s Angels feel enormously privileged to be a part of bringing positive change through the power of entertainment, and we hope to exceed that figure this year!
